Medina pledges just RD$6.0M, but warns farmers to pay back loans

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina visited eastern Hato Mayor province on Sunday, where he pledged RD$6.0 million to help fishermen, ranchers, poultry farmers, cocoa, coffee and sweet potato growers, bakeries, and dressmakers of the communities Sabana de la Mar, El Manchado, and Jaqueta.

Although it’s the smallest amount pledged during his now traditional visits on Sundays, Medina warned that they have to pay back the loans. "That money is the State’s, it’s not yours or mine, it’s of Dominicans who pay their taxes, because I didn’t come to give money away."

Accompanied only by Administrative Minister Jose Ramon Peralta and one bodyguard, Medina arrived at Sabana de la Mar near 10am, and met with fishermen, associations of women seamstresses, coconut processors, and sweet potato, fruits and rice growers.
