Civil Registry System under ‘assault’ till 2007, top official says

Santo Domingo.- Central Electoral Board president Roberto Rosario revealed Monday that the country’s Civil Registry System was subjected to an assault until 2007 resulting from its manual operation, were “serious irregularities have come to light” after it was digitally modernized.

"Until 2007 there was an assault of the Civil Registry and that’s because it was nominally public, but functionally private and in that capacity the offices acted as small businesses at the service of private interests," the official said.

Quoted by elnuevodiario.com.do, Rosario added that the assault occurred from a lack of government oversight.
