Lawmakers off to Peru as Senator’s embezzlement case widens

Santo Domingo.- The head of the Congressional Commission which investigates senator Félix Bautista on Monday announced it will travel to Peru, where the lawmaker allegedly funneled illegal funds for former Peruvian president Alejandro Toledo’s electoral campaign.

Senator Prim Pujals said when the delegation returns from Peru, the Commission will continue the hearings with testimony by journalists who denounced the case.

He said despite the many subpoenas for journalists to testify, they’ve yet to comply, but noted that nonetheless they’ll issue their conclusions before year end.

Bautista, a close collaborator of former president Leonel Fernandez, is also accused of embezzling funds while head of the powerful Government Works Supervisory Office (OISOE).
