Dominican prosecutors launch probe into ‘genuine’ RD$2,000 bills

Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Francisco Domínguez on Thursday said the Santo Domingo Province Office of the Prosecutor investigates the presence $2,000 pesos bills with the date of 2013, which Dominican Republic’s Central Bank hasn’t issued.

He said the investigation has just begun for which he cannot provide further details.

In that regard, Santo Domingo province prosecutor Olga Dina Llaverías said the investigating aims to establish who’s behind the bills’ circulation.

Not counterfeit

The Central Bank clarified in a statement that the bills aren’t counterfeit, while local media report that their circulation is likely the result of their theft from a warehouse in France, where they are printed.
