Dominicans who come bearing holiday gifts get a US$3,000 break

Santo Domingo.- The Customs Agency on Thursday announced the annual tax break on all gifts that Dominicans who live abroad bring to relatives and friends when they come to the country for the holidays, and which was raised to US$3,000 this year.

The exemption will be in effect from December 1 to January 7, and will benefit only those Dominicans who haven’t visited the country during the last six months, and for one member per family.

Custom director Fernando Fernández instructed the managers of the various departments to apply the tax break –which was US$2,500 the previous year- at all airports.
