U.S. lawmaker meets with Dominican deputies as court ruling draws visits

Santo Domingo.- U.S. representative (R-Florida), Heather Fitzenhagen met with the Chamber of Deputies Justice Committee on Thursday, interested in how the country’ lower chamber functions.

Ruling PLD party deputy from Santiago province Demostenes Martinez provided the information and affirmed that the "there’s s nothing in this gathering with the congresswoman’s agenda.”

The visit by Fitzenhagen, from Fort Myers, member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Florida District 78, comes in the aftermath of the fallout here and abroad from the controversial Constitutional Court ruling of Dominican nationality.

Also announced Thursday is a visit by a delegation of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), which has stated its rebuke of the ruling.
