Human Rights Commission to visit Dominican Republic, EFE reports

Washington.- The Inter-American Commission for Human Rights (IACHR) will visit Dominican Republic from December 2 to 6 as part of the fallout from the Constitutional Court’s controversial ruling that affects tens of thousands of people in the Caribbean country, EFE reports Thursday quoting the Commission.

"This will be the IACHR’s seventh ‘on-site’ visit to the country, the Agency said in a statement, which notes that it was invited by the authorities, to "analyze Dominican Republic’s human rights situation regarding the rights to nationality, identity, equality and non-discrimination," the agency said.

"The Inter-American Commission will interview government authorities, the three branches of government, and will meet with representatives of various civil society sectors, both in Santo Domingo and other provinces in the country, with an interest to know at greater depth the challenges and progress in human rights and complaints,” it said, adding that Commission president José de Jesus Orozco will head the delegation slated to visit the Caribbean country.
