Announced bill would naturalize those ‘born here who can show roots’

Santo Domingo.- Presidency chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo yesterday said the next few days the government will submit legislation to naturalize people were born in the Dominican Republic and who can show their roots.

He said the legislation aims to update the country’s mechanisms on immigration and nationality to ensure the legal security of people and establish clear and consistent rules.

The announcement came after a meeting in the National Palace with a delegation of the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IACHR), who will be in the country until December 6.

The delegation which took part in the meeting with senior government officials includes José of Jesús Orozco, Tracy Robinson, Rosa María Ortiz, Felipe González, Dinah Shelton, Rose Marie Belle-Antoine; Emilio Alvarez Icaza, Elizabeth Abi-Mershed, Catalina Botero, Imelda González, Álvaro Botero Navarro, Sofía Galván and Hilaire Sobers.
