Two US pilots die in cargo plane crash in Puerto Rico(Update)

Santo Domingo.- A Fairchild SA227-AC plane registry no. N834BC went down in Puerto Rico Monday night, killing both pilots, according to colonel Enmanuel Souffront, head of the Civil Aviation Accident Investigative Commission.

FILE. Two pilots were killed Monday night when a cargo plane that took off from Las Americas International Airport went down in a wooded area near the town of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, flightaware.com reports.

The victims in the crash of the IPC Airways company cargo plane have yet to be identified by Puerto Rico first responders, who immediately began the search for survivors last night.

Witnesses in the area close to the crash site said the airplane was flying very low prior to hearing a thunderous explosion.

"IPC Airways flight 405 from Las Americas International Airport to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport took off from Santo Domingo at 7:26pm. The flight never made it to San Juan."
