Human Rights hears complaints from both sides of the border

Santo Domingo.- Inter-American Human Rights Commission (IACHR) delegation leader Emilio Álvarez headed a meeting Wednesday with representatives from Dajabon (northwest) and the Haitian city of Ouanamintheon

After the meeting IACHR spokeswoman María Isabel Rivero said they visited the border area, and the results of the investigation will be announced Friday in a press conference in Santo Domingo.

Dajabon community activist Luis Sosa said they told IACHR officials that Dominicans who cross into Haiti are victims of abuse and looting, “but nobody says anything,” whereas Ouanaminthe counterpart Joseph Pierre complained that Dominican authorities mistreat the Haitians who enter Dominican territory, where they are allegedly stripped of their documents.
