Only 10% of women domestic violence victims call police,Chief

Santo Domingo.- Only 10% of women victims of domesticviolence denounce the aggression to police, chief Manuel Castro affirmedTuesday.

The official stated the National Police’s “tenacious commitment”to work to reduce cases of domestic violence affecting society.

Castro said the fight against gender violence must befocused on critical paths to reduce the crime which causes so many deaths.

The official spoke together with Minister of women AlejandrinaGermán, UN Population Fund representative Sonia Vásquez, Justice minister FranciscoDomínguez, among others, to mark International Day of Human Rights and InternationalDay for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
