Police major general dies in Duarte highway crash

Bonao, Dominican Republic.- One of the country’s most respected National Police commanders died in a traffic accident Monday morning, when a tire of the SUV he was burst, sending the vehicle plunging into a ravine.

Major general Juan Ramón de la Cruz Martínez was the commander of the South Cibao Regional Police headquartered in Bonao.

Police chief Manuel Castro said de la Cruz’s son and daughter in law were in the vehicle, and were taken to the Juan Bosch hospital in La Vega with serious injuries

The SUV went off the road near the Jatubey bridge at the Jayaco district on the Duarte highway, where it collided with another vehicle before falling into the Fula river.
