JCE takes measures against ID forgery

Santo Domingo.– The Central Electoral Board (JCE) yesterday presented to political parties and groups the proposal of the new format for the electoral and identity card, which will begin to be issued during the first months of 2014 and has 23 security features to prevent counterfeiting.

JCE president Roberto Rosario said that the equipment approved to print the new document does have the ability to print a high tech, reliable document, which will be able to incorporate a chip, visible or not, with data.

He explained, however, that the chip will not be included in the first phase. "In the Dominican Republic there is no technological platform to read the chip. A chip is not a luxury, it is an element that now is useless because we don´t count on the necessary technology."
