Dominican Republic Cardinal slams government “nonsense” on deportations

Santo Domingo.- Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez on Monday slammed government officials on the issue of deportations of undocumented Haitians, warning that they should speak “clearly, without hesitation or nonsense, calling bread, bread and wine, wine."

The prelate’s warning comes just days after Presidency chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo announced a halt of deportations of undocumented foreigners

He said the halt of deportations of undocumented immigrants has “neither foot nor head” and asked "to check on all five continents to see if any illegal immigrant is well received.”

Lopez, speaking in a mass in the Cathedral of America to mark La Altagracia day, also asked the country’s prayers on the latest spate of crimes, kidnappings and atrocities that he affirms have created a social decay plaguing the country.
