More questions in case of policeman nabbed with US$500,000

Santo Domingo.- National Police spokesman Jacobo Mateo Moquete on Wednesday revealed that Sgt. Eduardo A. Massanet, arrested with nearly US$500,000 in the capital, joined the police April 1,2012, during José Polanco’s tenure.

Mateo said Massanet was promoted to Sergeant on the same day he joined, but fired by current chief Manuel Castro.

He didn’t specify however who recommended Massanet to the Police, noting that despite being assigned to police headquarters Internal Security Dept., wasn’t in service there.

Mateo said the probe continues, but it’s handled by the Office of the Prosecutor.

Outlet listin.com.do says it confirmed that Massanet didn’t have criminal record as initially reported.

National District judge José A. Vargas ruled to release Massanet without charges, claiming that possession of the money seized during his arrest isn’t a crime.
