New robotic surgical institute opens in Santiago

Santiago, DR.– World-renowned robotic prostate surgeon,David B. Samadi, MD, joined President Danilo Medina this week to inaugurate andunveil the first Samadi Robotic Surgical Institute at the HospitalMetropolitano de Santiago (HOMS), pioneering robotic surgery in the DominicanRepublic.

While in Santiago, Dr. Samadi was honored for hishumanitarian efforts in prostate cancer, and performed the first-ever roboticprostate surgery in the country. “I am pleased to be part of the first roboticinstitute and medical advancement at the Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago(HOMS),” said Dr. Samadi, prostate cancer treatment expert and Chairman ofUrology and Chief of Robotic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital.

The new Samadi Robotic Institute at HOMS is comprised offour state-of-the-art operating rooms to be led by surgeons Rafael SanchezEspañol, Juan Felix Chaplain, Jose Alvarez Torres and HectorSanchez Navarro. The experienced laparoscopic surgeons traveled to the Da VinciSurgical facilities in Houston, Texas and Phoenix, Arizona for training in thelatest robotic surgery techniques.
