Officials surrender in San Francisco RD$100.0M embezzlement scandal

Santo Domingo.- San Francisco’s (northeast) mayor and its Finance manager surrendered Monday to face charges of embezzling more than RD$100.0 million from Dominican taxpayers.

Mayor Félix Manuel Rodríguez was handed over to Justice minister Francisco Domínguez by Juan de los Santos and other officials of the ruling PLD party.

Finance manager Fior Daliza Genao surrendered to Anti-corruption Dept. director Laura Guerrero, who said she and the Mayor will be arraigned at the Duarte Province Courthouse, in San Francisco, adding that prosecutors will seek pre-trial detention against them and .

The third defendant, City Hall Payroll director Lizardo Pérez had already turned himself in last Friday in San Francisco, the country’s third city.
