Police chief says crime is down, patrols are up

Santo Domingo.- Police chief Manuel Castro Thursday night said the criminality index per 100,000 inhabitants has been reduced to 16.9 during his term.

He said the police have begun to change by reduction shakedowns, a halt to harassing arrests and uprooting bad practices.

Castro said he works to modernize the police.

The police chief said 1,200 agents will be added to the patrols on 800 motorcycles to will be donated by Taiwan in the coming months
