Customs torches 5.9M smuggled cigarettes worth RD$26.0M

Santo Domingo.- The Customs Agency destroyed Friday nearly six million cigarettes about to be smuggled into the country from China, Panama, India and Haiti, with an estimated cost of RD$26.0 million.

The bust comes after an investigation launched October last year in the south region, San Francisco, Villa Altagracia, Santiago and the National District.

Customs director Fernando Fernandez said among the cigarette brands figure Il Faut Capital, Glory, Sixty, Capital, Mega Blue, Gold Seal and Golden Deer, which in addition to evading import taxes, didn’t have the public health certification.
