Unigold statement on fatal Dominican Republic incident

Santo Domingo.- Unigold Inc. was notified late last night, Monday March 17th 2014, that there was an artisanal mine accident resulting in three fatalities and one seriously injured individual in the area of Mariano Cestero which lies within Unigold’sNeita exploration concession near Restauracion in the Dajabon region of the Dominican Republic. None of the workers involved in this tragic incident were Unigold employees or contractors to Unigold or in any way associated with Unigold.

“Our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers are with the families of those individuals involved in this tragic accident. We continue to provide support to the rescue effort working directly with the local and national authorities.” Comments Andrew Cheatle, President and CEO Unigold Inc.

Upon hearing of this incident, Unigold notified the Director of Mines – Alexander Medina, the local mayor, police and military. At the request of and under the direction of local authorities, members of Unigold staff have been assisting with the rescue processes and have provided pumps, light, tools, timber and trucks.
