Political parties ‘urged’ to handle RD$800.0M+ correctly

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s Accounts Chamber on Monday revealed that the audits practiced on most political parties found numerous irregularities, and urged them to back expenses with proper bookkeeping on the more than RD$800.0 million given them each year.

Chamber president Licelott Marte de Barrios called the parties’ lack of receipts for most expenses, checks written without funds and rentals without contracts “weaknesses,” in addition to inadequate purchasing and contracts for work and services.

The audits also detected unpaid taxes, violations of government accounting norms, lack of purchase orders and quotes from providers, personnel not registered with Social Security, unsigned checks and funds deposited after the regulation date.
