U.S. agents nab 2 Dominicans, seize US$11.M in drugs, weapons

New York.- U.S. agents and local officers over the weekend arrested two Dominicans and seized heroin valued at US$11.0 million, assault rifles, handguns and a large amount of ammo.

The suspects Edualin Tapia and Guillermo Esteban Margarín were allegedly hiding 50 kilos of heroin and 20 of cocaine, two assault rifles and a pistol, in an apartment in a building in Hartford, Connecticut, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and New York Police Dept.

The arrests of Tapia and Margarin come in the heels of a six-month investigation by the DEA, the New York City police and other law enforcement agencies.

Special anti narcotics prosecutor Bridget Brennan said the 50 kilos of heroin and 20 of cocaine were taken from New York to traffic them in Connecticut and other New England states.
