Thousands confront chikungunya in nationwide push

Santo Domingo.- Starting 8am Friday today, thousands of Dominicans will join the nationwide mobilization to prevent chikungunya, announced Wednesday by president Danilo Medina, to halt the spread of the epidemic.

The workers and officials of numerous government agencies headed by the Public Health Ministry have been instructed to mobilize their neighborhoods and communities with house to house orientation about the disease and dengue fever.

Medina’s call to rally against the mosquito that transmits the disease was also praised by private institutions, non-government organizations and professional guilds such as the Dominican Medical Guild, the Teachers Association and universities.
