Medina mum on Glencore mine plan; talks up Emergency System

Santo Domingo.-President Danilo Medina on Thursday opted to continue mum of the hot-button issue of Glencore’s planned mine at Loma Miranda (central), until Congress decides whether to declare it a national park.

"Let them conclude, I’m not going to talk about it before, I don’t want to interfere," Medina said when asked about the Senate Committee report disclosed Wednesday that favors the creation of Loma Miranda National Park.

The chief executive also urged the media to collaborate with the 9-1-1 emergency system, to educate the population to the importance of preventing prank calls.

Medina spoke with reporters after heading an event at the Ozama Wetlands National Park in La Victoria, to mark World Environment Day.
