PAHO concerned about America’s vulnerability to Chikungunya virus

Santo Domingo.– In its latest report on chikungunya in the Americas, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) revealed the number of cases increased in the region by nearly 28,000 cases compared to last week.

According to the report, the total figure of confirmed and suspected cases is now 135,427 in 17 countries in the Latin and non-Latin Caribbean, with 4,486 confirmed cases and another 130,941 which are suspected.

The report states there are nearly 53,000 chikungunya cases in the Dominican Republic. However, other sources say the number of cases is around 40,000 in the country, an amount which is still alarming.
