Dominican Republic’s major embezzlers ‘keep three lovers’

Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Francisco Domínguez affirmed Monday that Dominican Republic’s major embezzlers "maintain three lovers and place each one in a 10 million-peso apartment."

"It’s not the poorest who takes what’s not theirs and major crimes here are committed by those who don’t need money to eat," the official said.

He the country’s professionals deserve better work conditions, wages, social security, health insurance, pensions, among others, that give their lives and deserve recognition, while others who have too much deserve a penalty.

Domínguez, speaking at a Christian Evangelical Churches dialogue, said those who steal aren’t the poorest of officials, “not the man or woman who struggle, and not those who humbly try to raise their family.”

He said major embezzlements here are also linked to such crimes as drug and trafficking, contract killings, people trafficking and government corruption. "It’s no longer to eat, they have three lovers and have to put them in a 10 million peso apartment each, enjoying an unjustifiable standard of living."
