NYC Mexicans buoy Dominican’s bid for congressional seat

New York.- To the tune of the famous corrido "Jefe de Jefes" (Boss of bosses) by the popular group Los Tigres del Norte, the Dominica-born New York State senator Adriano Espaillat scored the key support for his bid for a House seat in Washington.

Mexican-American Chamber of Commerce president Pedro Amatar said the nearly 10,000 of his countrymen registered to vote in the 13th Congressional District, will do so for Espaillat. “Mexicans are supporting Adriano because he has been coming to us since long ago. He has listened to our needs and our shortcomings."

He said the hopeful for the Democratic candidacy, "has been very aware of the importance and growth of contribution made by the Mexican community based in New York.”

Amatar, speaking before the Chamber’s senior executives gathered for event held in an East Harlem restaurant, added that they are prepared to support Espaillat and wrest the seat away from to the incumbent Charles Rangel, and confront his re-election bid.
