Agents seize 29 new autos, houses in bust of drug ring

Santo Domingo.- The Antinarcotics agency (DNCD) on Monday said during the weekend it seized 29 new vehicles of various makes from the dealer Auto Modelo at Estancia Nueva township, Moca, located 15 kilometers from Santiago.

It said the dealership is owned by Geovanny Antonio Rodríguez (Georgy), charged with heading a drug trafficking network with links to New York and other U.S. cities.

Agency spokesman Miguel said it seized a warehouse, a speedboat and two residences allegedly owned by Rodríguez and another man identified as José Francisco García (El Pelu), being held in connection with a confiscation of thousands of dollars in Santiago’s Gurabo sector .

He said in several raids the agents seized other properties including firearms and navigation equipment “that implicates the suspects in the network.”

Medina said the network shipped drugs hidden in vegetables to various airports and ports in the U.S. and France.

The case broke on June 6 with the confiscation of more than 34 kilos of cocaine hidden in several boxes of vegetables at the Port of Haina, headed to Brooklyn, New York. The DNCD followed several suspects which led to other evidence to bust the network.
