Israel, Dominican officials mull energy efficiency

Santo Domingo.- Energy and Mines minister Pelegrin Castillo met Sunday with Israeli counterpart Silvan Shalom, who stated Tel Aviv’s interest in signing an agreement in those sectors to bolster to Dominican Republic’s energy security and benefit its population.

The Israeli official said as a first step his country would send a technical delegation of renewable energy experts to advise Dominican communities in impoverished areas, and promote the use of energy as a tool for social inclusion.

Shalom pledged to promote the integration of Israeli companies in the Dominican Republic and a possible visit in November.

The officials discussed Israel’s successes in nergy efficiency and agreed to use its experience to develop a government policy of efficiency in the Dominican Republic.
