Agents seize 1.3 tons of cocaine at Caucedo Port

Santo Domingo.- Antinarcotics (DNCD) agents on Tuesday seized around 1,050 kilos (1.3 tons) of cocaine inside two containers being loaded at Caucedo Multimodal Port in Andrés, Boca Chica, headed to Barcelona, Spain.

DNCD spokesman Miguel Medina said the drug was hidden in 32 bags along with dozens of boxes of cigars.

He said the drug was seized as the result of a weeks-long investigation conducted jointly by the DNCD, the Customs Agency, the National Investigations Dept. (DNI), Military Intelligence and the Port Security Corp.

Medina said the ship Caroline Schulte, which uploaded the containers at Costa Rica, was subjected to an x-ray inspection which detected the packages with the drug.

He said the authorities investigate around 10 people in connection with the case.
