Consumer Agency names fined propane gas stations/thieves

Santo Domingo.- Propane gas stations are the businesses which the Consumer Protection Agency (ProConsumidor) fines most often, for rigging the meters and scamming users out of millions of pesos monthly. The stations currently owe as much as 19.8 million in fines.

The agency also slaps fines on gas stations, for false advertising, for selling drain unclogging products such as Drano known locally as plomerito and devil’s acid, and for selling of expired products.

Among the stations fined by ProConsumidor figure Propagas in Higuey (east), with RD$511,750, and the Propagas 9 kilometres north of the National District on the Duarte highway, with RD$2.6 million.

It said of Propagas’ 16 propane gas stations, 11 had rigged meters.

ProConsumidor said Propagas also operates other stations with rigged meters in San Pedro (east) and Jarabacoa (central), among others.

Other companies/scammers

It adds that the stations Envasadora Rojo Gas, San Antonio Gas and Loncha Gas in Bonao (central) were all fined RD$511,750 pesos each for cheating customers among others.
