In reversal, deputies send National Park bill back to Senate

Santo Domingo.- As some sectors predicted, the Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday rejected amendments made by the Senate to the bill would create Loma Miranda National Park, which must now return to the Senate.

The deputies’ 96 to 39 decision with 9 abstentions contradict its president Abel Martinez’s announcement earlier that it would pass in the lower Chamber despite the Senate’s amendments he called a “straightjacket.”

Martínez had said earlier that the bill would not go to committee to avert its expiration since the current legislation ends June 30.

The debates began at 1pm and concluded at 3:45pm.
