Former official charged with embezzling RD$1.0B to stand trial

Santo Domingo.- The Constitutional Court on Tuesday refused an appeal to acquit former canals and dams agency (INDRHI) director Héctor Rodríguez Pimentel, charged with embezzling more than RD$1.0 billion during his tenure.
The decision upholds a Supreme Court ruling handed down November 21, 2013, which rejected the appeal filed by Rodríguez’s lawyers on September, 18, 2013.
The former official was indicted and the prosecution requested a trial against him and codefendants in the alleged embezzlement from INDRHI’s budget for salaries and expenses, uncovered by an Accounts Chamber audit in 2007.
