Repeat offenders cannot get bail: Justice Minister

Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Francisco Domínguez on Thursday urged Congress to pass the reform of the criminal procedural code (CPP) since in is view, offers new tools to control criminals who are repeat offenders.

He said the reform proposes changes in the CPP for cases of contempt of court and flight risks.

Dominguez, who called cases of repeat offenders among of the country’s most serious problems, reiterated that they cannot be released on bail.

He said repeat offenders cannot be let loose on the street even if it means building more prisons.

"If more people have to go to prison, let them come," the official said during a ceremony to launch the Network of Prosecutors Against Organized Crime, with representatives of the Justice Ministers across the region.
