National Distric Prosecutor stands by accusation against Instruction Judge

Santo Domingo.- The National District Court of Appeals on Wednesday overturned a lower court’s ruling and ordered the reopening of the investigation into the contempt of court charge filed by Instruction judge Margarita Cristo against prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso, in the money laundering case against former Public Works minister Víctor Díaz Rúa.

Court of Appeals 3rd Special instruction judge Ysis Muñiz ruled for the motion by Cristo’s lawyers to revoke the lower court’s decision and open an investigation into the contempt of court charge.

When Reynoso was asked which sectors are behind the charges against her, said, “no sectors. Víctor Díaz Rúa is behind the lawsuit. Not sectors, because I don’t speak of the generic."

The official also asked that Cristo explain her recent trip to Europe.

Reynoso, who had accused the judge of accepting a US$2.0 million bribe from a drug trafficker, reaffirmed her challenge against Criso. "From the moment I made this objection, very responsibly, it absolutely confirms all that and more, reaffirming not only that, but also that we have evidence to support what we’ve said in the challenge, which is absolutely true."

He says that not opposed to continue the research, but it would be interesting not only to investigate the complaint, but the reasons for the challenge which are constitutive of the crime.
