Customs destroys seized booze worth RD$33.2M

Santo Domingo.- The Customs Agency on Thursday destroyed 2,000 more boxes of alcoholic beverages seized in several ports of the country, as part of continuing operations against smuggling and illicit cross-border trade

“This is the third operation of destruction of various types of alcoholic beverages, so let there be no doubt that we won’t allow smugglers a single breath to commit to this or any other illicit action," said Customs director Fernando Fernández.

He said a total of 4,800 boxes have been destroyed in the last few weeks. “We’ll continue with these actions to complete the destruction of all the ones retained, of around 12,100 thus far,” whose market value is RD$33.2 million

He added that at the start of June the press was informed of the first action ever to destroy alcoholic beverages in Dominican Customs history.
