Search in city council targets ex-L.A. Dodgers slugger

Santo Domingo.- Special Anti-Corruption prosecutor Laura Guerrero on Wed. announced a search in the San Cristobal City Council to gather evidence against former L.A. Dodgers slugger and that town’s mayor Raúl Mondesí, on alleged irregularities.

She said the search stemmed from complaints of irregularities in the management of the Council’s funds. "We intervened to seize documents that could be relevant for an investigation and possible criminal prosecution."

Guerrero didn’t specify money amounts, citing the ongoing investigation. "Sometimes audits mix a lot of information and an amount is often ballooned as to what is in fact is a felony."

The official said the search wasn’t just on the allegations against Mondesi, but also on the results of a preliminary audit by the Accounts Chamber.
