Top official calls for calm after Medina’s ‘valor’ with veto

Santo Domingo.- Presidency Administrative minister José Ramón Peralta on Thursday called on the groups that call for protests of president Danilo Medina’s veto of the Loma Miranda National Park bill, to do so peacefully and orderly.

The official said Medina’s decision was weighed and respectful, and noted that the President couldn’t proceed as a populist in that case. "In fact, wit haste, under pressure, we were going to fall into a trap and the President’s valor must be understood for taking this measure, which has been praised by all sensible sectors."

He said the Head of State placed a populist position aside, faced with a reality in which things must be done “in a correct manner.”
