Vaccine against dengue almost available in DR

Santo Domingo.- Pediatrician and researcher Carmen Deseda said yesterday that a vaccine against dengue is almost available, which will reduce hospitalizations and cases of hemorrhagic dengue in the Dominican Republic.

As Listin Diario reports, the study is been carried out by Sanofi Pasteur, which has demonstrated a 60.8 percent efficiency in the four serotypes of dengue and reduction of 80.3 percent of hospitalization cases and dengue hemorrhagic fever.

The details of the research were presented by Dr. Deseda at the Third Conference on Updates in Pediatrics and the Tenth National Conference of the Dominican Society of Pediatrics, which are held in the country since last Wednesday.

The research is conducted in several Latin American countries and is in the stage of data analysis. She said the vaccine will be given to children and adolescents of ages between 9 and 16 years, a population segment for which the research focuses in Brazil, Honduras, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Colombia.
