Ex Dominican assemblywoman gets 1 year in jail on fraud

New York.- Former Dominican assemblyman Gabriela Rosa was sentenced to one year and one day in prison and three years probation by the South District Federal Court Friday morning.

Judge Denis Cote handed down the sentence and said he was very upset with the former lawmaker for having boasted of her American citizenship, obtained through an immigration scam.

Defense lawyer Genesis Peduto mutinied the court for parole claiming the Rosa has a sick child, but the judge rejected it on the grounds that the convict’s family who can do so.

Gabriela, who should start serving her jail sentence at 2pm on November 24, told the judge in tears that she was repentant for her crime.
