30-year-prison sentence for a Bolivian man in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- A National District Court on Friday sentenced a Bolivian immigrant to 30 years in prison for killing a Japanese man who worked in the Dominican Republic for Japan’s International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Luis Antonio Baldelomar Tirina (aka Tony) had been convicted last year and received the same sentence for the March 2010 slaying of Tadaomi Nakai, but the previous ruling was dismissed due to legal technicalities.

Both men were 36 at the time. According to prosecutors, Baldelomar had previously lived in Japan and knew Nakai there. The Bolivian stabbed the Japanese aid worker with a kitchen knife in Nakai’s apartment in Santo Domingo for having a affair with his wife.
