RD$3.0M debt led to 11 toddlers’ deaths: Doctor’s Guild

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Doctors Guild (CMD) president Pedro Sing affirmed Thursday a RD$3.0 million debt with the oxygen supplier caused the failure at Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital where 11 toddlers last weekend.

"The doctors had to administer oxygen manually for 12 hours," the physician said, noting that the situation at the hospital’s worsened because the elevators were damaged.

He called the hospital’s situation precarious, because of the government allocation of just RD$7.0 million, it remains with only three.

He asked president Danilo Medina to provide the funds necessary so that poor, ill children can get proper care “once and for all.”
