Embattled senator calls case against him ‘political persecution’

Santo Domingo.- Senator Félix Bautista on Tuesday reiterated that Justice minister Francisco Domínguez has unleashed a political persecution and abuse of power against him, as evidenced by the official’s statement opposing a court ruling that didn’t find probable cause for an indictment on alleged embezzlement.

The lawmaker from San Juan de la Maguana said contrary to what his detractors claim, he’s always been responsible for his actions, and would never implicate former president Leonel Fernández in something that he has never participated, "that would injure the morale of a person."

Bautista, of the ruling PLD party, discarded the notion that Dominguez’s stance stems from president Danilo Medina’s instructions to reopen the case of alleged corruption against him.
