The ‘country’s owners’ again strike fear at major port(Update)

Santo Domingo.- A truckers’ strike has halted operations at Boca Chica’s Caudedo Multimodal Port, as two unions wrestly for control of its lucrative container cargo business.

FILE. The truckers and containers union of Boca Chica (SITRAFUABOCHI) on Wednesday denounced the hijacking of several units by armed men to rob the drivers and haul away the cargo whose whereabouts is unknown.

Union leader Rafael Caminero, accused Blas Peralta, head of the country’s biggest truckers union –FENATRADO- of being behind the hijacking, which he affirms leads to serious losses for industrialists and Boca Chica.

He said four trucks full of raw materials headed to industrial free zones were intercepted by around 10 armed men near the town of Guerra, where the drivers were forced to unhook the containers.

He also warned that Peralta plans to block freight traffic in and out of Caucedo Multimodal Port today Thursday, noting that each time that occurs, truckers, the state and businesses face losses in the hundreds of millions.

The heads of the unions FENATRADO, FENATRANO and CONATRA are know as the “country’s owners,” for their frequent and often violent strikes with impunity.
