Ex Dominican Republic leader’s supporters attack reporters(Update)

Santo Domingo.- The SIN news network on Wednesday reported at least four attacks on journalists covering a conference by former president Leonel Fernandez, where it costs US$1,000 per person to attend.

Quoted by SIN, Acento.com.do editor-in-chief Fausto Rosario said one of his photographers, Samuel Tapia was the target of an aggression by Fernandez’ supporters gathered at the hotel Embassy Suites by Hilton in Santo Domingo’s Tiradentes Av., with similar attacks by the TV channels ANTENA7, Telesistema and NCDN. Also Will Jimenez, of ANT 7 ART was punched by several of Fernandez’s supporters.

Fernandez, who rode a wave of popularity to his three terms in office, is now the target of questions by wide sectors in the Dominican Republic, in the heels of investigations into alleged embezzlement of two of his closest collaborators, former Public Works minister Victor Diaz Rua and senator Felix Bautista.
