Judge lets Supreme Court decide on embezzlement case against senator

Santo Domingo.- Supreme Court special judge Frank Soto on Wednesday again declined the request to lift the liens on the properties of the realtor Rofi, in which senator Felix Bautista has a majority stake and at the center of the embezzlement case against the lawmaker.

Soto also recused himself from the case so the full Supreme Court can designate another judge to hear the Senator’s motion or ratify him to continue the proceeding.

The judge’s decision came after Justice Ministry Unit Anti-Corruption director Laura Guerrero and Deputy minister Carlos Castillo challenged him to hear the case, claiming the judge’s partiality with Bautista, whose lawyers say the challenge aims to delay the decision on the legislator’s request to lift the liens on Rofi.
