Another convict in Puerto Rican kingpin case freed after serving time

San Pedro, Dominican Republic.- San Pedro de Macoris Sentence Execution judge Altagracia E. Mejia on Friday ruled to release Eddy Brito, who was serving a conviction for money laundering for Puerto Rican kingpin Jose Figueroa Agosto.

Luis Aybar, Brito’s lawyer, said his client was released after already having served five-year prison sentence.

He said his client had left the prison at La Romana.

Brito was sentenced to 12 years in prison on September 11, 2012, but a judge later reduced to five years in July 2013.

The inmate had requested probation on several occasions, most recently last April 9.

Also released earlier this year was Figueroa’s girlfriend Sobeida Feliz, Brito’s former wife.
