British, U.S. ships seize 850 bricks of drug near Dominican Republic coast

Santo Domingo.- The National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) reported the confiscation of 850 bricks of presumably cocaine or heroin aboard a speedboat from South America, with four Colombians arrested.

DNCD spokesman Dario Medrano said the British Navy ship HMS Argyll and a U.S. Coast Guard vessel coordinated the interdiction some 81 nautical miles southwest of the Dominican Republic in international waters, resulted from shared intelligence among the region’s allies in the war on drug trafficking.

He said the DNCD was alerted by exchanging information with drug enforcement agencies of the Caribbean on a suspicious speedboat headed toward Dominican Republic’s coast, also prompting then immediate deployment of several of its elite teams.

In a statement, Medrano added that four Colombians wee apprehended on board the vessel, who will be escorted to the United States for processing.
