Protestors demand senator’s conviction at Supreme Court

Santo Domingo.- Dozens of people gathered in front of the Supreme Court building demanding the conviction of senator and secretary of Dominican Republic’s ruling party (PLD) Felix Bautista for allegedly embezzling taxpayers money.

Antiriot police were posted at the site where the protesters waved pickers and voiced chants against the legislator,.

Since 11am Special Instruction judge Alejandro Moscoso presides over the pretrial hearing on charges of corruption and money laundering against the legislator

"Jail for the corrupt," "Prison for political criminals", "Felix Bautista, you stole the country and want to continue,?” read some of the pickets carried by demonstrators.

AL-Pais minority party leader and former Presidency candidate Guillermo Moreno carries a pickethat reads: "Prison for thieves," "Recover the stolen."

Ivan Rodriguez and Ramon Almánzar of the Patria para todos movement are taking part in the activity, among other political and social figures.

The event took on a festive atmosphere as the protesters sing Christmas carols naming Bautista, to the beat drums and trumpets..

Radical priest Rogelio Cruz accompanied by a group of youngsters also took part in the demonstration.
