Calm returns to Dajabón and Juana Mendez border areas

Dajabon, DR.– The Dominican Consulate in the Juana Mendez community, Haiti, worked normally Friday, as well as the binational market held every Monday and Friday in Dajabon.

Vice consul Marciano Mateo reported that the whole staff of the embassy showed up to work on Friday. In recent days, a mob of Haitians pelted it with stones, bottles and sticks, so it was necessary to close the office until the violent incidents ceased.

The military surveillance has been reinforced in the two customs, that is in both sides of the border, in order to avoid further problems between Dominicans and Haitians.
